The Tanzanian writer, who won Nobel Prize for Literature in 2021. Gurnah’s works reflect the consequences of imperialism and issues of migrants. He was born in Tanzania in 1948. Gurnah who migrated to England in the 60s is the fifth African writer to win the Nobel Prize in literature. His noted works are Memory of the departure, Pilgrims way, Paradise, The last gift, Gravel heart and By the sea. A former English professor at the University of Kent, Gurnah received Nobel Prize for his novel Paradise, which depicted the struggles faced by migrants in the Gulf. This novel was also shortlisted for the Booker Prize and Los Angels Times Book Prize.

Srilankan writer Shehan Karunatilaka is the winner of the 2022 Booker Prize for his second novel The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida. Another book penned by Shehan, Chinaman: The Legend of Pradeep Mathew won the Commonwealth book prize. This novel was selected by Wisden as the greatest cricket novel ever. Shehan has also written a screenplay, three children’s books and a short story collection, The Birth Lottery and Other Surprises.

Sjón (born in Reykjavík, 1962) is an Icelandic poet. Born in Reykjavík in 1962, he is also an internationally celebrated novelist, lyricist and screenwriter. His noted works are the Blue Fox, The Whispering Muse, From the Mouth of the Whale, Moonstone, CoDex 1962, and Red Milk. Sjón has won several awards, including the Nordic Council’s Literature Prize and the Icelandic Literary Prize. His works have been translated into thirty-five languages.

As a poet, Sjón’s first poetry collection, Synir, was published in 1978. He has published twelve poetry collections and had written opera librettos and lyrics for various musicians, mainly Björk. The Sjón – Björk duo’s song “I’ve Seen It All” for the film “Dancer in the Dark” was nominated for ‘Best Orginal Songs’ at the 2001 Golden Globes and 2001 Academy Awards.

He had written the screenplay for the well-acclaimed Icelandic film ‘Lamb’, which was awarded the most original film title at the 2021 edition of the Cannes film festival. He also wrote the screenplay of the Viking movie Northman along with its director Robert Eggers, which premiered in 2022. He is currently working on a Hamlet adaptation with Swedish-Iranian director Ali Abbasi.

Mateo holds an undergraduate degree in English Literature and Creative Writing from the University of Westminster and a post-graduate degree in Journalism from the London School of Journalism."

"Born in Dubin, Ireland, Colum McCann is an Irish writer of literary fiction. He had penned seven novels, three collections of stories and two works of non-fiction.
